Data networking via intelligent telematics interface.


Horstmar, im September 2014 - The autonomous use of individual telematics systems among transport and logistics companies has almost become a thing of the past. These customer groups quickly realised that utilising telematics systems only improves the efficiency of processes when all of the available systems are intelligently networked. Schmitz Cargobull's trailer telematics system successfully meets this challenge.

In the past year Schmitz Cargobull Telematics has standardised the interface for the connection to other data systems and established a process for integrating the trailer telematics data.

The ongoing technological developments in the market have given rise to trends which Schmitz Cargobull Telematics has addressed with the new web service interface. The strategy is as follows:

  1. Cooperation and integration of the trailer telematics data into leading logistics software. For example, the data integration into the Winsped system from the market leader, LIS AG, will be presented at the IAA Show.

    Customers benefit from this integration as it provides the transport manager, who uses the logistics software every day, with the trailer telematics data in the same system. This means that the telematics system forwards the trailer and load data to the software provider's database via a push interface. As a result, the transport manager has a clear overview of everything in a single location, and requires neither an additional screen nor access to a separate system.

  2. Cooperation and integration of the trailer telematics data into leading truck OEM telematics systems. The initial implementations will also be presented at the IAA Show.

    Customers benefit from the fact that transport managers and drivers simultaneously receive trailer telematics data via the truck telematics system. If transport managers primarily rely on truck telematics, then the integration into the leading system provides a similar increase in efficiency to the integration into the logistics software. In this case, they also no longer need a second screen or access to separate system.

  3. Cooperation and integration of the trailer telematics data into consolidation portals.

Task:
Many customers are faced with the problem of having fitted telematics systems from a variety of different providers when purchasing vehicles. If they also lease trailers in addition to their own assets then their fleet may include the leasing company's own telematics system. Is there any way to obtain standardised data? A mix like this would force the customer to operate 3-4 systems simultaneously, which is a completely unfeasible solution.

T-Systems and Schmitz Cargobull Telematics found a solution in 2012 – TelematicOne. Since then, T-Systems has continued developing the system. The product is now available.

TelematicOne is already connected to a broad range of truck and trailer telematics systems (MAN telematics/Fleetboard/Volvo Dynafleet/Cargobull Telematics / Wabco Trailer Guard/IDEM) and can therefore offer customers one portal for consolidation. Once again, customers have the advantage of only needing to use one single portal.
