Trailer Services Technology Rapid order processing Schmitz Cargobull is a proven specialist for efficiency – particularly when it comes to delivering great customer service. This was impressively demonstrated by the company’s employees with their ideas at the Office Excellence Awards 2016. In two of the categories that were assessed, Schmitz Cargobull took first place. It won awards for the Best Office Organisation and the Best Improvement Programme. The Office Excellence Awards give formal recognition to companies that, in a comparison with other companies, take the most effective measures to increase office efficiency. The two top placings demonstrate that Schmitz Cargobull optimises processes and work sequences in the office area with quantifiable success. In the end the customers are also winners, benefiting, for example, from significantly more efficient order processing. timal cargo space utilisation and quick and easy repairs are clear criteria for success in the everyday business of forwarding companies. Other important factors are secure data management for the vehicle and cargo as well as flexible and reliably calculable financing for the operators. A few years ago, with galvanising of the chassis, Schmitz Cargobull was already focused on a holistic consideration of costs throughout the trailer’s service life. Ahead of the competition Refrigerated boxes: With the S.KO COOL COMPLETE, forwarding companies acquire a cost-optimiser with one of www.cargobull.com No. 52 · 2017 Drive and save Total cost of ownership: With Schmitz Cargobull, forwarding companies maintain tight control over their costs for the complete transport solution. Continued on page 2 Sceptics first dismissed it as one of the many catch phrases coined by management consultancies – rapidly making the rounds through the boardrooms and disappearing even more rapidly. But the total cost of ownership (TCO) approach has long since become established as a highly efficient and customer-oriented decision-making criterion. In the commercial vehicle sector Schmitz Cargobull was one of the first advocates of a holistic consideration of costs, recognising that 80% of costs arise in everyday operations. The focus has shifted for the fleet operators too: away from purchase prices and towards a holistic cost analysis throughout the entire service life. Schmitz Cargobull has therefore given the highest priority to reducing the TCO in all sub-areas and at all levels. A clear objective has been set in this regard: the highest customer satisfaction and the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry. Easy handling, op- Long trucks are beneficial for the environment and forwarding companies Dear Readers, Using resources sparingly, relieving the burden on the environment – we at Schmitz Cargobull have always had these aims in mind in terms of economic efficiency for our customers. Because for forwarding companies, less wear, lower consumption and less maintenance and repair work also mean lower costs. Increased, and more efficiently utilised cargo space, boosts revenue. This potential is growing due to the use of telematics and long trucks, resulting in increased transport efficiency. In Germany, long trucks are now being put on the approved road network and used in regular operations. To this end, Schmitz Cargobull has offered for several years now the most comprehensive product range (type 2 and type 3) in the industry, with tried and tested vehicle combinations consisting of tractor unit, trailer and semi-trailer. In line with the diverse legal framework conditions, Schmitz Cargobull is also constantly developing country-specific solutions. For Russia and South Africa, for example, 16.5 m-long trailers with a total train length of 20 m have long been part of the product range. In Germany, extended semi-trailers with a maximum length of 17.8 m are referred to as ‘type 1’. Schmitz Cargobull will now also offer 14.9 m-long trailers for use in Germany, as they can be operated across the approved road network and throughout North Rhine-Westphalia for the next seven years. The use of long trucks in regular operations is an important step on the path to more effective and more environmentally friendly transport. With this legal clarity we expect a growing demand for these vehicles. However, long trucks must not cross the borders and may only operate domestically. Consequently, European harmonisation of the legal situation is now a top priority, because a national and, in part, regional hotchpotch is prejudicial to transport companies and harmful, not least to the environment. That is why we support all progress in this direction and expect a lot of momentum in the next few years. The situation remains exciting, we are moving forward. As a result of these reduced operating costs the transport company’s competitiveness is strengthened. An additional benefit: reduced fuel consumption means lower CO2 emissions and is therefore good for the environment. Continued on page 3 the best insulation values on the market. Better is the enemy of good. The aphorism of the French philosopher Voltaire could also serve as Schmitz Cargobull’s motto. How else can it be explained that the company did not relax its efforts, but instead further improved the S.KO COOL – the best-selling reefer semitrailer for temperature-controlled freight in Europe – within a development time of two years? As a result of these efforts, the best-insulated refrigerated box on the market – with a k value of 0.33 W/m2K – finally emerged. Consequently, the S.KO COOL COMPLETE demonstrates what is technically feasible through specific improvements in the refrigerated box area and offers Schmitz Cargobull customers appreciable cost benefits. Harmonisation in Europe is a top priority k = 0.33 Yours faithfully, Boris Billich, Sales Director Schmitz Cargobull AG
