New digital opportunities from Schmitz Cargobull Parts & Services
Digitalisation opens the door to remote maintenance applications for local service and training

September 2018 – The trailer manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull has invested in new digital systems for local service and workshop training. Using the newly developed RemoteService app, workshops around the world can connect to Schmitz Cargobull specialists and receive online support and handy hints during the repair process thanks to video chat instructions. This drastically reduces the time needed for troubleshooting and keeps downtimes to a minimum. Virtual-reality-based training sequences will be used to enhance training and development for workshop engineers. Enabling engineers to experience repair scenarios in a virtual world helps to improve the success of training. The first area of application for these new digital service and training elements will be the new Schmitz Cargobull S.CU refrigeration unit. 

As part of its modular service portfolio, Schmitz Cargobull Parts & Services offers services ranging from tyre replacement to full breakdown assistance across Europe. As a result, customers are back on the road as quickly as possible in the event of repairs, enabling them to keep up with work without any hassle. With the Full Service Trailer, Full Service Tyres, and Full Service Refrigeration Unit (which is particularly suited to the Schmitz Cargobull refrigeration unit) service modules, customers can maintain the functionality of their trailers and protect their components over their entire service life. The Full Service Trailer package covers all wear-and-tear work (labour and materials), maintenance, legal checks and breakdown assistance across Europe for a fixed monthly price. Under the Full Service Tyres package, customers have the option of adding coverage for tyre impact damage and replacement truck tyres. Around 1,700 Service Partners across Europe are on hand to help, accompanied by more than 1,500 Schmitz Cargobull tyre Service Partners plus an additional 2,500 workshops from manufacturer networks. 

With its repair management solution, Schmitz Cargobull Parts & Services also provides customers with a pay-per-use option tailored particularly for the requirements of fleet customers. Customers enjoy full flexibility when it comes to selecting a workshop and only pay when they actually use Schmitz Cargobull services.

Optimum logistics for spare parts thanks to European support warehouse network 
As a complete supplier for trailer spare parts, Schmitz Cargobull Parts & Services supplies 29 support warehouses across Europe from its central warehouse in Altenberge. This ensures that, as a rule, workshop customers in Europe can be catered for with parts held in stock straight away or supplied within 24 hours. The proportion of wearing parts and third-party-compatible parts is now around 60%. Over 70% of all spare parts orders are received online via the online store and are sent to be picked from the warehouse automatically.

The online store for trailer spare parts, which currently has more than 68,000 different parts, is enhanced on an ongoing basis to improve usability for Service Partners and customers. The EPOS spare parts documentation system has set standards in the industry in terms of the quality of order handling and the clear verifiability of components. For instance, the system is now available as a tablet-friendly version with a built-in QR code reader, allowing users to scan the QR code on the trailer type plate and add it straight to the trailer-specific spare parts documentation. The system’s underlying database currently contains more than 650,000 Schmitz Cargobull trailers recorded by chassis number.
