Data. Facts. Information. First-hand corporate communication.
September 2018 –Schmitz Cargobull’s SmartTrailer concept is based on a new generation of telematics hardware (CTU-3), which also includes extra optional sensor equipment. Customers benefit particularly from the concept's ability to link up all the relevant sensors and monitor the associated trailer components directly via the telematics system. In the past, each individual component was generally treated as a stand-alone unit, dependent on its own sensor and transmission elements. In Schmitz Cargobull’s SmartTrailer concept, however, every component is directly linked to the telematics control unit – be it the tyre pressure monitoring system, door sensors, door locking system or temperature recorder. The temperature recorder in the new TrailerConnect system is a digital temperature recorder certified in accordance with DIN EN 1283. Should they need a standard printed temperature log, customers can have their vehicle equipped with an optional Schmitz Cargobull printer. TrailerConnect is also equipped with a wireless LAN module.
TrailerConnect Portal 2.0: keep a close eye and a firm grip on your trailer at all times
The launch of the new generation of telematics hardware also coincided with the introduction of the TrailerConnect Portal 2.0. This portal offers customers an online display of all data recorded by the telematics system, such as trailer location, mileage and door status. It also consolidates all this data, enabling operators to cut costs and streamline their processes thanks to comprehensive fleet management functions.
At the same time, it provides users with a user-friendly interface for any of the SmartTrailer functions that can be operated remotely: the TrailerConnect Portal 2.0 can, for instance, be used to select the setpoint for the refrigeration unit or unlock the door locking mechanism at the touch of a button. The central features of Portal 2.0 offer genuine added value, such as enhanced usability and appealing design. In many cases, the SmartTrailer concept allows problems to be identified without having to visit a workshop. Diagnosis can take place directly over the TrailerConnect Portal 2.0, which evaluates almost all trailer components centrally in one clear dashboard.
Extra special: beSmart app
Using the extra beSmart app (which is free of charge), drivers of HGVs equipped with a smart trailer can access trailer components and functions directly from their smartphone, and can even control elements like the door locking system and the refrigeration unit setpoint. This offers an extra degree of comfort, relieving strain on fleet management.
Master the logistical challenges of the future with the SmartTrailer concept and TrailerConnect
The development of practical logistics solutions based on the SmartTrailer concept and the TrailerConnect Portal 2.0 will continue to play a major role for customers – and their customers – over the next few years. This will increase the range of functions on offer (e.g. thanks to additional sensors), thus making logistics processes easier and improving the transparency of the transport chain. A telematics-based service has been included with all Schmitz Cargobull S.CU refrigeration units as standard since as early as 2012. Experience in the field shows that there will be increased focus on the areas of proactive service and predictive maintenance in future.
Schmitz Cargobull Telematics GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Schmitz Cargobull AG and has just enjoyed one of the most successful years ever in its 14-year history. Figures like a 20% growth in sales and more than 10% growth in turnover speak for themselves. While important gains with international key account customers have played an important role in this development, growth in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States has also helped to boost business outside of the established markets in Western Europe. 80% of all telematics systems sold are fitted by Schmitz Cargobull ex-factory, 20% in the after sales market. Around 60% of these systems are fitted in the box body product line, while 40% end up in curtainsiders. In the reefer semi-trailer segment (where Schmitz Cargobull is the market leader), the trailer manufacturer will equip all of its vehicles with the TrailerConnect trailer telematics system in future, transforming the S.KO COOL into the S.KO COOL SMART. As well as offering state-of-the-art hardware and a full range of services for Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics solutions, Schmitz Cargobull Telematics GmbH also provides customers with comprehensive advice related to data interface management. The company has built up in-depth expertise regarding advice for transport and fleet management processes.
Schmitz Cargobull Telematics GmbH offers its services across Europe, relying primarily on its own experts who advise customers on the services available. Find out more at www.cargobull.com.
