Sustainability strategy at Schmitz Cargobull

Sustainability targets and key messages

As part of its Strategy 2030, Schmitz Cargobull is pursuing the goal of becoming stronger and more competitive economically. Sustainability is an integral part of the overall strategy.

The revised sustainability strategy is based on a materiality analysis that identifies relevant issues for the company and its stakeholders. The long-term sustainability targets have largely been retained in terms of content, but brought forward in terms of time – with the targets to be achieved by the 2029/30 financial year.

Our role in the value chain

value chain
As Europe's leading manufacturer of semi-trailers, Schmitz Cargobull is a key component of the logistics chain. As a family-owned company with over 130 years of history, we develop and produce trailer solutions that enable the transport of goods worldwide, while offering attractive working conditions for our employees.

Our contribution to sustainable logistics is twofold: on the one hand, we increase efficiency and safety in road freight transport through innovative products, digital services and sustainable concepts. On the other hand, we are actively working to reduce emissions along the entire value chain – both in the processing of emission-intensive materials such as steel and aluminium and in the use phase of our vehicles.

With our sustainability strategy and ambitious climate targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we are committed to decarbonisation, resource conservation and responsible supply chains – for climate-friendly and future-proof logistics.

Our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cover all three areas of sustainable development (ecological, economic, social) and are intended to provide guidance for tackling global challenges worldwide. In the course of developing the Schmitz Cargobull sustainability strategy, we have verified that we can make important contributions to the following SDGs in our industry by 2030.
We have launched a range of products that make a key contribution to the sustainable transformation of our industry. Take our all-electric reefer the S.KOe COOL, for instance, which enables refrigerated freight to be transported with zero emissions.
