The new S.BO MULTI: Dry freight box for changing transport requirements

With the S.BO MULTI, Schmitz Cargobull is expanding its dry freighter portfolio with a semi-trailer that covers a wide variety of transport tasks.

June 2026 – With the S.BO MULTI, Schmitz Cargobull is expanding its dry freighter portfolio with a semi-trailer that covers a wide variety of transport tasks. This improves capacity utilisation and increases flexibility in daily use.

The newly developed dry freight box is suitable for a wide range of cargo – from palletised goods and general cargo to hanging clothing, vehicle parts and bulky or loose goods. This means that the S.BO MULTI is suitable for use in logistics centres, production sites, and industrial applications with changing loading and load securing requirements.

The central feature of the S.BO MULTI is the integrated double-deck system with keyhole plates. It creates additional transport capacity without additional journeys and increases the utilisation of the trailer for different loads. Technically, this is achieved by aluminium double-decker rails with a length of 2,050mm and a spacing of 1,200mm, which enable the use of a second loading level. This means that up to 33 additional Euro pallets can be transported. The keyhole plates arranged between the rails allow flexible and precise load securing and support various securing systems such as locking beams, clothes rails, tension belts or nets.

The robust design reduces wear and contributes to low maintenance and repair costs in fleet operations. The side walls are made of a two-shell steel structure with reinforced columns. While one type of column supports the double-decker rails, a second is used to mount galvanised keyhole plates and creates additional securing points. Zinc plating increases corrosion resistance and extends the service life of the components. Reinforced keyholes ensure high resilience even during intensive use.

Thanks to its modular design, the S.BO MULTI can be adapted to different application requirements and integrated into existing fleet concepts. The S.BO MULTI uses proven components from the S.BO EXPRESS, including a bulkhead made of Aluminium planks,  an insulated roof and continuous steel connection profiles. For the rear, there are aluminium doors or an optional aluminium roller shutter from Schmitz Cargobull is available. The body can be supplemented with double-deck rails type B, steel plinth rubbing strip, or optional aluminium rubbing rail.

The body is certified according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL (payload 27,000kg). A modular, bolted and galvanised construction is available for the chassis in a roll-up design, made for standard transport requirements. For demanding applications and markets, with permissible gross combination weights of 44 tonnes or more, the X-TOUGH heavy-duty chassis is available as an option. In addition, the TrailerConnect® telematics system for the transparent presentation of trailer data is integrated as standard.

With the increasing number of thefts of high-value transport goods, the topic of security is becoming increasingly important. For the S.BO MULTI, Schmitz Cargobull offers a comprehensive security concept that is designed to meet the requirements of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA). Like the S.BO EXPRESS, the S.BO MULTI dry freight box is available in a TAPA TSR1-capable version and is equipped with coordinated safety components and portal functions ex works. These include an acoustic alarm system and a door locking system, in combination with door contact sensors that secure access at the rear. Additional functions in the TrailerConnect® telematics portal, such as sabotage and TAPA mode, enable continuous monitoring. Schmitz Cargobull is the first provider to offer the TAPA safety package for a dry freight trailer fitted with a roller door.

Short repair times and easy maintenance increase the availability of the S.BO MULTI and reduce operating costs. Repairs can be carried out with common tools, as well as glueing and riveting techniques. This reduces downtime and maintenance costs. In addition, the design contributes to more sustainable transport solutions: The use of glueing and folding processes instead of conventional welding technology reduces energy requirements in production and lowers CO₂ emissions.

The S.BO MULTI is designed for transport tasks with frequently changing requirements and supports freight forwarders in improving capacity utilisation, efficiency and flexibility in daily use.
