Schmitz Cargobull offers a coordinated system consisting of the S.KO COOL refrigerated semi-trailer, S.CU refrigeration units, TrailerConnect® telematics, plus services for trailers and transport refrigeration units. Transport companies, therefore, receive all essential components for safe and economical refrigerated transport from one single source. 

Integrated solutions from a single source
The interaction of all components ensures maximum operational reliability, optimum energy efficiency and complete temperature documentation. This creates planning security and lower overall costs in operation. With a market share of around 50%, Schmitz Cargobull is one of the leading manufacturers in the refrigerated semi-trailer segment in Europe. Since the introduction of the first S.CU transport refrigeration unit in 2012, over 38,000 units have been produced. 

Today, around one in four S.KO COOL refrigerated trailers are delivered with a Schmitz Cargobull S.CU transport refrigeration unit. The basis of the S.CU transport refrigeration unit is an electrified modular system: the compressor, fan and control system all work electrically. The S.CU can be powered by both diesel and mains electricity. In the future, new energy sources such as fuel cells will also be possible.
In Europe, Schmitz Cargobull uses the R454A refrigerant as standard in the S.CU modular system, reacting early to the stricter EU F-Gas Regulation. The R454A refrigerant has a significantly lower direct GWP (Global Warming Potential) value, which reduces the CO2 equivalent by 89% compared to the previously used refrigerant R452A.

New S.CU DC100 transport cooling unit: VarioFlow technology regulates the cooling capacity according to demand
With the S.CU dc100, Schmitz Cargobull is presenting a new generation of transport refrigeration units. The core of the development is the VarioFlow technology, in which refrigeration and cooling/heat transfer are controlled independently of each other for the first time. At the heart of the system is a speed-controlled two-stage compressor that is directly electrically connected to the diesel generator set, as well as new VarioFlow fans for the evaporator, condenser and engine room. While conventional transport cooling units directly link refrigeration and cooling/heat transfer, the essential components of the S.CU dc100 can be controlled independently of each other for the first time. Thanks to the new VarioFlow technology, the speeds of the compressor, evaporator fan, condenser fan and machine room fan are adjusted independently of each other and according to demand, so that each component always operates at its optimum level. This provides exactly the cooling capacity required for the respective transport and environmental situation.

Compared to the previous model S.CU dc90, the S.CU dc100 consumes up to 8% less fuel while offering up to 11% more cooling capacity. The S.CU dc100 transport refrigeration unit is available as a MonoTemp version and, in the future, also as a MultiTemp version.

New: Transport refrigeration unit S.CU mt-DualEvap for MultiTemp transport with longitudinal partition wall 
For urban food and distribution transport, Schmitz Cargobull offers an economical solution for longitudinally divided multi-chamber operation with the S.CU mt-DualEvap. Two temperature zones can be implemented longitudinally in the trailer – without an additional ceiling evaporator. This preserves the full interior height for the load. The S.CU mt-DualEvap supports longitudinal partition walls with predefined transverse partition options from 830mm to 1,250mm, enabling precise adaptation of the trailer for different customer requirements. Thanks to the final transverse partitions, the sizes of the temperature-controlled chambers can be adjusted according to the load, which enables flexible, energetic and economically sensible use of the trailer also under the aspect of taking back empties. 

S.CU d80: robust, quiet and reliable
The S.CU d80 impresses with its maximum robustness and particularly quiet operation. The durable 4-cylinder diesel engine is low-maintenance and works very reliably even with inferior fuel quality. The variable speed control, the efficient scroll compressor and the hermetically sealed refrigeration circuit reduce fuel consumption and downtime – a clear advantage in daily food transport. The S.CU d80 is also supplied with the R454A refrigerant as standard in Europe, which reduces the CO2 equivalent of this model by 89% compared to the previously used refrigerant R452A.

S.CU ep85: Fully electric and locally emission-free 
The all-electric S.CU ep85 with integrated power electronics operates locally emission-free. With the battery capacity of 32 kWh, self-sufficient electric operation of 4.5 – 18 hours can be achieved, depending on the application and requirements. Charging via the mains is carried out via the standardised CEE mains plug installed on the transport cooling unit. In combination with an electric generator axle, which recuperates energy during braking, among other things, the electric operation can be extended and the charging requirement of the high-voltage battery via the power grid can be reduced.

Flexible and ready for the eTransformation: S.CU Schmitz Cargobull transport refrigeration units are optionally ePTO (Electric Power Take Off) ready ex works, for total electric operation. When using an electric semi-trailer, the energy comes from the high-voltage battery in the truck, an additional battery in the trailer is not required. This means low investment costs, maximum flexibility and maximum operational reliability. Thanks to the automatic switch over from electric to diesel operation, the ePTO ready option is ideal for use in mixed fleets with differently powered tractor units (diesel, electric, etc.).

Transport refrigeration units for the North American market 
With the joint venture Cargobull North America (CBNA), Schmitz Cargobull is expanding its presence in North America for temperature-controlled transport. A key success factor is the modular system, which combines globally used components with market-specific requirements. Schmitz Cargobull combines expertise in transport refrigeration units and telematics with the market knowledge and expertise of the US market leader Utility Trailer.  
The 625+ HYBRID and 655+ MT HYBRID (MultiTemp) models are based on the European S.CU modular system and are specially designed to meet the demanding requirements of North American refrigerated freight carriers. Both transport cooling units use a common-rail diesel engine generator set that meets the stringent emission requirements of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). All components in the refrigeration circuit are electrified.

The diesel engine generator set does not require clutches or drive belts that are susceptible to wear. This increases operational reliability and reduces maintenance costs and the risk of downtime compared to a direct-drive system. The two-stage semi-hermetic compressor provides up to 20% more cooling capacity at -20°F (-29°C). The robust and low-maintenance "Evergreen" common rail diesel engine requires neither exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) nor diesel particulate filter (DPF). The 625+ HYBRID and 655+ MT HYBRID transport cooling units are both optionally available with the ePTO-ready solution for emission-free transport.
