Smarter sustainable food transport

Smarter sustainable food transport

Sustainable, environmentally conscious transport solutions are increasingly important for long-term business success. Above all, transport companies that are entrusted with the handling of food are paying more attention to the environmental and climate impact of their operations.

Flexibility and sustainability in daily transport operations with the S.CS EcoFLEX

This was a key factor behind TSL Spedition’s decision to order ten new S.CS EcoFLEX curtainsiders from the Schmitz Cargobull EcoGeneration. The new semi-trailers will be used for transports by the Rewe Group, one of Germany's largest food retailers. Representatives of both companies met for the handover of the vehicles at the Schmitz Cargobull plant, in Altenberge, and at the same time took part in an intensive training session to ensure the optimal handling of the vehicles.

"We had already seen the presentation of the vehicles at the IAA and were enthusiastic about the concept of the aerodynamic EcoGeneration right from the start. Above all, the new vehicle features, such as the aerodynamic stowage box, really impressed us," says Thomas Becker, fleet manager at TSL. "The flexibility and sustainability of the vehicle are exactly what we need in daily use for our transport tasks. Because we will increasingly drive in eco-mode, we can reduce fuel and CO2 accordingly," adds Martin Gärtner, authorised signatory / traffic manager at TSL. Indeed, the business is so convinced this is the right solution for its operation, another eight S.CS EcoFLEXs have already been ordered.

TSL GmbH has been a successful service provider for transport and logistics of all kinds for many years. Thanks to their many years of experience and the use of state-of-the-art technology and software, they offer their customers individually adapted logistical transport solutions. The top priority for the company, which has five locations in Germany and 65 employees, is the consistent and fast operational implementation of individual customer requirements. TSL GmbH's main customer base is made up primarily of leading companies in the food industry.

The aerodynamic curtainsider, S.CS EcoFLEX, features a liftable rear which reduces air resistance and subsequently cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In practical use, savings of well over five percent have been achieved. The flexibly adjustable rear end also makes it easy to raise the trailer when the cargo space is needed in its entirety. Another highlight of the EcoFLEX is a new aerodynamic stowage box, which is only available from Schmitz Cargobull. The EcoPack stowage box not only offers even more stowage space, for things such as spare wheels, but also contributes to further fuel savings with its special aerodynamic design.

The vehicles will also be equipped with the new LED light strips, which provide more brightness – making loading and unloading easier and safer. The EcoFLEX bodies of the new vehicles are fitted with sensors that make the Eco mode visible in the TrailerConnect® portal, making the vehicle even "smarter".
